A designer’s coffee bar, built exactly as drawn

An unused office corner turned into a jewel-box coffee bar: lit glass uppers, a raised quartzite bar, a mirrored hexagon backsplash and a crystal chandelier, built from the designer’s plan in four phased weeks.

Cyndi had a corner of the house that had quietly retired: an old office nobody used anymore. She wanted it to earn its keep as a coffee bar, and she wanted it done to an exacting standard. Her interior decorator at James Craig Furnishings drew a custom bar layout, and our job was to make the finished room match that drawing exactly. We refined the scope and selections with Cyndi before a single tool came out, then built the project in small phases scheduled around her travel, about four weeks start to finish.

The build ran deeper than it looks. We demolished the old bar area, hauled everything off, and prepped the walls flat and level before setting the new gray shaker bases and glass-front uppers, each upper wired with in-cabinet puck lighting over glass shelves so the whole display glows. We roughed in new supply and drain lines for the undermount bar sink, ran a brand-new circuit from the attic for dimmer-controlled under-cabinet LEDs, and converted a recessed can into a fixture-rated box to carry her crystal chandelier, licensed pros where the code calls for it. The quartzite counters with the raised bar top are a stone Cyndi fell in love with and upgraded to mid-project, and the mirrored beveled hexagon backsplash was a design upgrade we folded in without missing the schedule.

Partway through, we found a leaking water line in the attic. It was never part of the job, but it was her home, so we cut out the damaged section, repaired and pressure-tested the line, and repainted the water-stained laundry room with stain-blocking primer, both at a courtesy rate. That is what taking care of a client looks like to us.

We walked the finished bar with Cyndi on July 9, confirmed every item against the designer’s plan, and handed over a closeout package: our one-year workmanship warranty, the manufacturer warranties, and a care guide for every finish in the room. The corner that used to store a desk now pours the first cup of the morning under a chandelier.
