Karleen’s tub alcove had reached the end of the road: a dated surround, tired walls, and plumbing that had earned its retirement. She did not want a patch job. She wanted a tub worth soaking in and a wall assembly she would never have to think about again.
We stripped the alcove to the studs and dealt with what we found honestly: the subfloor was opened and reinforced, and the supply lines were replaced with new PEX before a single tile went on. The new jetted tub was set in a full mortar bed so it feels rock solid underfoot, not hollow.
Then came the finish that makes the room: large-format onyx-look porcelain up the walls, a glass mosaic accent band running the full perimeter at eye level, a corner shelf for the essentials, and a deep charcoal ceiling that makes the stone glow. It reads more like a boutique hotel than a hall bath.
