How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Houston?

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Houston?

Bathrooms are the smallest rooms we remodel and some of the most expensive per square foot, because almost everything in them is plumbing, tile, or waterproofing. That surprises people, so here are honest numbers for the Houston and Katy area as of 2026, and what actually moves them. Treat these as orientation, not a quote. Your bathroom is its own project, and the written scope is what turns a range into a number.

What actually drives the price

  • The wet area. The shower or tub zone carries the cost: demo, a properly sloped pan, waterproofing, tile, valve work, and glass. Everything else in the room is cheaper than this box.
  • Tile choices. Standard porcelain versus designer tile swings materials, and intricate patterns swing labor even more.
  • Moving plumbing. Keep fixtures where they are and you save real money. Relocating a drain, a valve, or a toilet adds plumbing and slab or subfloor work every time.
  • Glass. A framed door and a frameless enclosure are different budgets.
  • Vanity and counters. Stock, semi-custom, or floating custom with stone, largely in your control.
  • Size. Small rooms cost more per square foot than big ones, because the expensive parts, plumbing, waterproofing, and glass, do not shrink with the room.

What bathrooms actually cost around Houston

  • Refresh (new vanity, fixtures, paint, tub or shower surround, layout stays): roughly $6,000 to $15,000, with most landing between $8,000 and $12,000.
  • Full hall or guest bath remodel (tile shower rebuild, new vanity, tile flooring, fixtures): roughly $12,000 to $30,000, with most landing between $15,000 and $22,000.
  • Primary bath remodel (tile walk-in shower with glass, double vanity, tile floors): roughly $25,000 to $65,000. Mid-range projects usually land between $30,000 and $45,000, and luxury builds with layout changes go beyond that.

The tile shower, on its own

A lot of Houston bathrooms do not need the whole room redone, they need the shower rebuilt right. A to-the-studs tile shower rebuild, meaning demo, a new pan, full waterproofing, custom tile, a new valve, and glass, typically runs $8,000 to $20,000, with most landing between $10,000 and $15,000 done properly. The spread is size, tile, niches and benches, and framed versus frameless glass. The part you should never let a bid shrink is the waterproofing, and here is exactly what that layer is and why it matters.

Why the cheapest bid usually is not

In bathrooms, corners get cut where you cannot see them: the slope of the pan, the waterproofing behind the tile, the prep under the floor. The room can look perfect on day one and fail in year two. A low number with thin line items is usually a bid that skips the invisible work, and redoing a failed shower costs more than building it right once. Compare bids line by line with what a written scope should include.

How long it takes

A full bathroom typically runs a few weeks, and the schedule has hard waits built in, like waterproofing cure times, that rushing can only break. We cover the honest timeline in how long a bathroom remodel takes.

Financing and phasing

A primary bath is a real investment, and you do not have to pay for it all at once. We offer financing so you can spread the cost, and when it makes sense we can phase the work. Ask about both when we scope your bathroom.

A bathroom is the smallest room in the house and one of the easiest places to overspend or underbuild. The written scope is what keeps you from doing either.

We will walk your bathroom, talk through your goals and budget honestly, and follow up with a clear written quote at no cost. Get your free quote or see our bathroom remodeling approach.
