A chef’s kitchen, built for a baker

Shirley dreamed of a real chef’s kitchen for baking. We took a dated, multi level layout down to one clean, waterfall edge counter, moved the electrical down, coordinated her custom cabinets, and lit every cabinet inside and out.

Shirley loves to cook, and she loves to bake even more. Pastries, breads, cakes, cookies, the kind of baking that needs real oven space and a proper cooktop. For years her kitchen worked against her, a dated multi level layout with a tall raised bar chopping the room in half, dark cabinets, and not enough room to spread out. She had one clear goal: a true chef’s kitchen, built around the way she actually cooks.

We started by opening the room up. The raised bar came down, and we brought the whole kitchen to one continuous counter height so every surface is usable prep space. To make that work we moved the outlets down off the old bar wall and re ran the wiring for the new layout, licensed pros on the parts the code calls for. Shirley had her cabinets custom built on site by a separate crew, so a big part of our job was coordination, two teams sharing one kitchen, sequenced so no one lost a day and every finish lined up. Once the cabinets were set, we installed the glass inserts in the uppers.

Then came the details that make it feel custom. The new counters wrap the islands in a waterfall edge that carries the stone all the way to the floor. We lit the cabinets top and bottom, added under cabinet lighting around the whole kitchen, and tucked warm toe kick lighting beneath the islands so the room glows after dark. All new appliances went in, including a pro style gas cooktop and double ovens built for serious baking, and while we were in the home we upgraded the light fixtures through the pantry and other areas too.

One more thing mattered here. The family has allergies, so before any demo began we set up full dust containment inside the home and kept the rest of the house sealed off and clean through the entire build. The result is the kitchen Shirley always pictured, open, bright, and ready for whatever she wants to bake next.
