Britney’s brick ranch, green to Caviar in three days
A brick ranch in Old Katy with faded green siding, trim and garage door, pressure washed, prepped, siding on the chimney repaired, and everything but the brick painted a near-black called Caviar: gables, trim, garage door, front door, chimney and the back of the house. Three days start to finish.
This was our second project for Britney. In April we took the carpet out of her house and laid plank; in August the call was about the outside. Her house in Old Katy is a classic brick ranch, and the brick was never the problem. It was everything around it: the siding in the gables, the trim, the garage door and the front door had all been painted a green that had faded unevenly, so the house read as tired from the street. She wanted a repaint and a color update, not a renovation.
We pressure washed the house first and prepped it, including some siding repairs on the chimney before any paint went on. Then the garage door, the front door and every run of trim were taped off from the brick, because a repaint on a brick house lives or dies on the line where paint meets mortar.
The color is Caviar, a near black. Gables, fascia and trim, the garage door, the front door, the chimney and the back of the house all went the same color. One dark color on everything that is not brick makes the brick the star, and it reads sharp instead of dated.
Three days start to finish. The before and after above are the same view from the driveway, and that is the whole point of an exterior repaint done right: same house, same brick, and it looks like a different property.
