Britney’s new house, carpet to plank

Britney had just moved into her new house and wanted the carpet gone. We took three bedrooms, the living room and every common space down to the slab, laid one continuous run of light oak look rigid plank through all of it, and finished with all new baseboards. The tile areas stayed.

Britney had just moved into her new house, and the carpet was the first thing to go. Three bedrooms, the living room and all of the common spaces were carpeted; everything else in the house was tile, and that stayed.

In April 2025 we pulled the carpet, pad and tack strips and took those rooms down to bare concrete. Our photos start after the carpet came out: the living room, the vaulted master bedroom and the bedroom under the arched window are already down to the slab. There was old peel and stick plank under some of the carpet and through the hallway and doorways, and we pulled all of that too so the rooms and the hall could run as one continuous floor.

Prep is where a floating floor is won or lost. We swept the slab clean, set a laser line to lock in the layout, and rolled out underlayment before the first row went down. The product is NuCore waterproof rigid plank in a light oak color, cut with a manual plank cutter and tapped tight with a block and pull bar. We staged the old carpet, pad and tack strips in the garage instead of leaving them piled inside the house.

The planks run in one direction from room to room, through the bedroom doorways and down the hall, and the living room floor meets the existing tile, which stayed. We finished with all new baseboards throughout. We shot these photos before the baseboards went on, so what you see is the floor on its own, one layout running straight from room to room.

Britney called us back in August for a different kind of job: her brick ranch, repainted from green to Caviar in three days.
