Some backyards deserve a front-row seat. This one had a resort-worthy pool, spa, and covered patio, and a wall of tired French doors doing everything it could to hide them. The owners wanted the line between inside and out to simply disappear.
So we took the wall down and rebuilt the way the house carries its weight. Because this was load-bearing, we shored the structure, then engineered and set a steel H-beam header sized to span the new opening and carry the roof load above it cleanly, the kind of work you never see once it is finished, and exactly where we refuse to cut corners. From there the masonry was saw-cut crisp, the rough opening framed dead-level, and the brick detailed back in so the new lines look original to the home.
Into that opening went an 18-foot, three-panel sliding glass wall, set true and sealed tight with proper flashing and weatherproofing so it glides with one hand and holds against Houston weather. Now the living room reads as one continuous space with the travertine patio and pool beyond, flooded with daylight by day and framing the water at dusk. Same footprint, completely different home.
